Frequently Asked Questions (About this club)

Frequently Asked Questions (About this club)

Q: How big is this club?
A: Think of this club as a small club. We don't think it's easy to put a number for how big this club is.. (not sure how many people wants to associate with us) also we also don't provide any membership statistics and membership details to any organisation.

Q:What is this a kongsi?
A: We are establishing a Kongsi (Chinese公司) or "Association ( huay guan) here, just like our forefathers, who migrated to Singapore in the earlier 19th century. Refer to this link:
http://singaporeclubau.blogspot.com.au/2012/03/are-you-traditional-kongsi.html

Q: What is your name?
A:  We are a group of volunteers manning the email address answering questions on a volunteer basis. We rotate around so as to share the work load. If you need to contact us just email us and the most suitable person will reply to your email.

Q: Is Merion Singa Uncle Phil?
A:  Uncle Phil is not Merlion Singa although his is welcome join in the pool of volunteers who are maintaining the blog and manning the email address answering questions!

Q: You sound like a migration agent promoting your business.
A:  Sorry.. if i Sound like agent, then this is a chance to say that  I am not a migration agent. If any one wants to migrate I recommend do it yourself rather than paying agents.  I don't operate alone,  and we are a group of volunteers.

Q: Are you sure you are Singaporean? Singaporeans cant be so helpful !
A:  Yes, I am 100% Singaporean, got one guy doubt abt me too and tested me about ns ..I sure pass with flying colours la..

Q: Would you be interested in doing ****censored*****  political activities??
A:  No thanks.. We are non-political and will not be involved in it. Maybe you should look elsewhere. We are only interested in helping Singaporeans in Australia. e.g. migration. trying to settle down etc...

Q: ....as there is no such thing as a free lunch....
A: Yes in fact there are free lunch.. but i really paiseh to to say that, it's not the intention to sponge on others and actually in fact I just came back from one, some times our members organise BBQ etc.

One of our "Core member" is Uncle Phil from Australia, just do a search on the google you can see who is he.  We admire his generous and helping spirit and he has been helping out people for many years, we are a group of volunteers who just want to help and we want to extend this service to a bigger group of people

Q: Isn't there already a **********xxxx********* Club?
A: Hi there are many clubs in Australia and we are just one of them.

However, our club is probably different we are completely self funded, non political and independent.

We are just manned by volunteers who typically have a hard time during the initial move to Australia, eventually received help from kind Singaporeans who went out of their way to help us.

Our club's main purpose is to help new migrants overcome their difficulties and settle down in Australia.

  1. Hi hi,

I'm a singaporean and have been wanting to migrate over to Brisbane... I have attended a seminar on migratig to Aus and have got in touch with two migration agents... the fees they charged is really high. Hence, Im interested in your comment that you encourage people who are keen to 'DIY'.

I am thinking of quickly getting the application process started before 01 July 2012. Any good advice on the DIY on the visa application? I'm applying under GSM.

    Thanks very much :)

    1. Hi Agnes,

For DIY, you can download the information booklet most relevant to your case. All the information you need can be found in the booklet.

  2. Hi Agnes,

Be aware though that applying yourself can be a long and tedious process. I did a self application about 10 years ago and the number of forms that needed to be filled, information found, forms refilled when they changed and so on was not a small task.

If you have the time to do it though, it can be done and you do save some money.

    Good Luck!!

  3. Hi, good day!
I have gone through this website and found useful. I am planning for a migration to Singapore. I am working in a Private Education Institution as a Marketing Manager with 7 years experience and holding on to an MBA. Please advise me on the Sub-Clause 175 or to apply for a Permanent Resident status. Thanks.
